About TEAM Westport

TEAM Westport is the official committee of the Town of Westport, CT with the mission to make the Town of Westport increasingly welcoming with respect to race, ethnicity, religion and LGBTQIA+. TEAM is an acronym standing for “Together Effectively Achieving Multiculturalism.”

Members are Westport citizens appointed by the First Selectwoman’s Office. Our overall aim is to provide programming which can significantly increase awareness, understanding and engagement across racial, ethnic, religious, and LGBTQIA+ lines for all people who live, study, work, visit and pass through our town.

From its origins as a Taskforce launched in 2003 by First Selectwoman Diane Farrell through our official appointment in 2005 as an advisory committee to the Town of Westport, TEAM has proactively pursued this mission by engaging with key public and private sector organizations in Westport. Those organizations have included the First Selectwoman’s Office, Westport Playhouse, Westport/Weston Interfaith Clergy and Council, Westport Library, Westport Schools, Westport Museum, Westport Police, Friends of TEAM Westport, AAPI Westport, Westport Pride, Westport Housing, Westport Planning & Zoning, Homes With Hope, Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, Sustainable Westport and Westport Arts Advisory Council  among others. Signature programming for TEAM has included the Teen Diversity Essay Contest, our Annual MLK Celebration, TEAM Annual Staples Scholarships, and Diversity Trailblazer Awards. However, overall, through our own and partner initiatives, we have enabled hundreds of DEI-focused events and program initiatives for the Westport Community.

In 2021, the Town of Westport codified its DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Values via the following:

TEAM Westport is committed to ensuring that its programming and partnerships are in sync with those expressed values.
